Christmas-themed children's fancy dress parade 3rd Dec 2008
|
 |
Youngsters will help Santa Claus to turn on the town's Christmas lights as they enjoy wearing kings and angel's outfits as part of a children's fancy dress parade, the Northern Echo reports.
Festive cheer will be bought to Shildon on Friday (December 5th) as the town celebrates the official switching on of the lights.
Once the parade is over, youngsters will be able to enjoy getting involved in a fun-filled evening that will include a disco, magic and puppetry, face painting and fairground rides.
Commenting on the event, a spokesperson said: "The event has been well supported over the years and we hope to see children and families attending and enjoying a fun evening, all monies raised will go to the Butterwick Hospice."
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a Christmas craft fair for the hospice where refreshments will be made available to all those who take the time to attend.
Lastly, there will be a fairy queen story session at the Sid Chaplain branch library for those aged three to four on Friday morning.
American cartoonist Thomas Nast depicted Santa Claus as a fat, jolly man in a red coat and trousers back in the 19th century.
