A Young Scientist competition was run in conjunction with a school carnival for the first time as organisers encourage young children to participate, the Malaysia Star reports.
Some 250 children attended the event and the Young Scientist Contest, enjoying a telematch as well as fancy dress, face-painting and colouring competitions which were all part of the carnival.
The winner of the Young Scientist competition was a model that illustrated the magnetic effect of force fields on a volcano.
Commenting on the idea to persuade younger children to take part, Tan See Miin, Sri Sedayas senior assistant for the secondary division, said: "We invited neighbouring schools and kindergartens to participate.
The fancy dress competition saw some children wear traditional Malaysian outfits, and 30 children dressed up in total.
There was also a series of ball games, skipping races and obstacle manoeuvres held at the high school.
Malaysians celebrate a number of holidays and festivities the most famous of which is the Hari Kebangsaan (Independence Day) on August 31st which commemorates the independence of the Federation of Malaya in 1957.
