Children's fancy dress for record-breaking sing-along 28th Nov 2008
Pupils at Derbyshire donned children's fancy dress to take part in a nationwide sing-along that broke the world record, Thisisderbyshire.co.uk reports.
Some 3,296 pupils from Derbyshire schools took part in the Big Sing as they simultaneously sang along with pop star Des'ree to her hit song You Gotta Be in children's fancy dress.
Children were dressed as pop stars and musical notes to help them get into the spirit of the event.
Among the Derbyshire schools that participated was Derby Grammar, in Rykneld Road, where 273 children sang.
Head of music Debbie Lamley said she had entered the school to get boys more interested in singing and to give singing and music a higher profile.
Ms Lamley said: "I was very proud of them all. They did brilliantly and broke a world record.
"I think there is a perception among lads that singing's not cool, so hopefully things like this will change that."
Meanwhile, Peterboroughtoday.co.uk reported that over 20 schools from Peterborough joined in with the event.
