 |
A pantomime themed children's fancy dress competition will form part of the festivities at the Daventry Christmas light switch-on.
The event, due to take place on Saturday (November 22nd) will see an as yet unnamed pantomime character walk along Sheaf Street with the Mayor of Daventry before the bug switch at 5pm.
Visitors to the event, which will start at 2pm, will not only get the chance to join in the children's fancy dress, they can also join in with face painting, as well as eat a hog roast and play on fairground rides.
Commenting on the event, Dec Rosier, clerk at the town council, said: "We want everyone in the town to join in the Christmas celebrations with an afternoon of fun leading to the official switch-on of the lights at 5pm."
Those who win the fancy dress competition will get the chance to switch on the Christmas lights.
The winners of the fancy dress competition will switch on the Christmas lights at 5pm with the mayor at the entry to North Street from High Street.
Pantomime was a popular form of entertainment in ancient Greece and, later, Rome.
