Children's fancy dress and pumpkin competition 4th Nov 2008
A pumpkin competition saw youngsters in children's fancy dress costumes and 20 would-be gardeners showing off their award-winning vegetables.
The winning pumpkin in the Long Clawson competition weighed in at a whopping 57.4kg. It was grown by four-year-old Lauren Scarborough.
Second place went to George Hall who is nine years old and three-year-old Dylan Moore came in third.
As well as the pumpkin competition the organisers put together a party. Organiser Claire Leaman said: "About 50 people came to the party, many in fancy dress, and we had games and refreshments.
"It's become a bit of a tradition in the village and an alternative to trick or treat."
Ms Leaman who hosted the party with Chris Leaman said that some of the pumpkins in the competition were used for carving.
She said that some others were probably turned into pumpkin soup or even pumpkin pie.
The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon, which is Greek for large melon.
