Cultural diversity honoured with children's fancy dress 29th Oct 2008
All the wonders of the world in children's fancy dress were on show at one cosmopolitan school, as reported in the Shields Gazette.
In a day devoted to celebrating cultural diversity, boys and girls at St Oswald's Primary School on south Tyneside were encouraged to dress-up in the national costumes of their favourite countries.
As part of the One World Day and European Languages Day, students at the school were also treated to French and German lessons.
Bob Grudgings, deputy headteacher of the school, told the Shields Gazette: "Our cooks prepared all sorts of food from different European countries, from pizzas to curries to German sausages.
"Pupils dressed up in the national costumes from various countries, so we had a few Spanish senoritas and some matadors."
Teachers were also encouraged to join in with the fun, as Mr Grudgings came to school in a Dutch football shirt and headteacher Mike Falcus disguised himself as a sheik.
In other news, children in Norfolk are currently gearing up for what promises to be a terrifying Halloween trail in Lynn this Friday (October 31st).
