Children's fancy dress party and book reading 21st Oct 2008
A children's fancy dress party at a public library saw youngsters in princess gowns, high heels and feather boas, the Courier News reports.
There were over 50 girls all under the age of ten dressed up to enjoy the party at the Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library's Fancy Nancy party.
The library itself had been dressed up and there were streamers all over the ceiling. It wasn't only a children's fancy dress party though, the adults joined in too.
Andrea Hare, an employee at the library, was dressed in a full-length gown and even wore a tiara. She read two of the Fancy Nancy story books to the expectant children.
Library director Carol Schrey told the paper that she got the idea for the Fancy Nancy party from a neighbouring library. She said: "In the library world, we always share our best ideas, and I thought we could do this."
As well as book reading and fancy dress, the children also got to enjoy hors d'oeuvres of pink and purple frosted biscuits and pink punch.
For many centuries, the title "princess" was not regularly used for a monarch's daughter. Instead she may have been called "Lady".
