Children's fancy dress to mark National Bookstart Day 10th Oct 2008
National Bookstart Day will see thousands of young ones who are pre-school age join in the celebrations in children's fancy dress to mark the event.
There will be a series of parties, mostly held in libraries, in addition to two flagship Scottish events that will all have a pirates theme today (October 10th).
Children's fancy dress will involve the youngsters getting dressed up as pirates and their parents will be able to join in too.
According to the website Book Trade, this year's event will see over 4,000 events across the country which will more than double the amount enjoyed by youngsters last year.
Bookstart is a programme that encourages children to share books and every child in the UK is given a book at seven months, eighteen months and three years old.
Commenting on the joy of reading, Gail Porter, celebrity mum and Bookstart fan was reported on the website as saying: "Reading books with your child is one of the nicest activities you can share. I have shared books with my daughter since she was very young."
Stourbridge news reported on an event taking place at the town's library where children will be able to listen to storyteller Julie Cooper performing pirate tales.
