Children's fancy dress competition at end of book week 3rd Oct 2008
Dinner ladies at a primary school read their favourite books to pupils in a week long event to promote reading which culminated in a children's fancy dress day.
The event at South Tyneside school saw pupils and staff come together and children listened to stories and poetry.
Head teacher Jim Purvis said that it was a "very successful week" and different classes within the school were read to.
Every pupil and all the staff were then encouraged at the end of the week to come dressed as a character from their favourite book.
There was then a competition to judge the children's fancy dress and book vouchers were given to the winner in each class.
Mr Purvis explained how the day worked. He said: "I went round and read my favourite stories and poems to all the classes, and the older children went down to read to the younger ones."
