Primary school has children's fancy dress day 30th Sep 2008
A primary school has just celebrated World War Two Day with a children's fancy dress competition.
Northiam Primary School was the venue for the event and the head teacher explained that the youngsters dressed as evacuees for the children's fancy dress.
There was also a prize for the best dressed adult in a period costume and head teacher Jill Thewliss said: "It was a great day and a real community event where children could integrate with older people in the village."
Ms Thewliss went on to explain that they had demonstrations of Lindy Hopping and the Hand Jive during the day as well as a machine gun in a fox-hole.
A nearby man also brought some large model aircraft, which included a Spitfire and Hurricane and the school is now thinking about holding a 1940's dance as the event proved to be so popular.
No-one was left hungry after the event as traditional recipes including woolton pie, honey cakes, carroty fudge and homemade soup were served using ingredients from the school's own garden.
