Fancy dress relay raises £100k for charity 26th Sep 2008
A charity event which involved teams of runners in fancy dress has raised over £100,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The Relay for Life took place in Scotland last weekend at Arbroath Cricket Ground, local newspaper the Arbroath Herald reported.
A total of 22 teams took part in the relay, which started at 11am on the Saturday and did not finish until 11am on the following Sunday.
Participants wore a variety of different outfits including nuns, reindeer and Father Christmases.
Prizes were awarded for the best fancy dress costumes, with Angus MP Mike Weir responsible for the judging.
Speaking to the Arbroath Herald about the event, he said: "Judging the competition was nerve-racking since all the teams had put so much effort into their tents and fancy dress.
"Everyone deserved to be a winner and it was very difficult to decide on the final three."
The £100,000 raised was significantly higher than last year's total of £28,000 and plans are underway to hold the relay again in 2009.
