This year's Syston Carnival was bathed in glorious sunshine and visitors got to join in the children's fancy dress competition, the Melton Times reported. The event was held on Saturday (August 30th) on Central Park and there were a number of attractions for visitors to enjoy. As well as the children's fancy dress competition, there was a fire eater, a stilt walker, clown, charity stalls, games, morris dancers, quad bikes and a fun castle. Bob Hendry, one of the festival organisers, said: "It was a super day. We had the best day of the year I think with the weather. It was absolutely packed, the sun was shining and everyone had a really good time." Mr Hendry said that they also had 70 stalls many of whom were raising money for charity. Children also got to look up at the floats that were on parade and had the chance to see the carnival queen. Local shops joined in the fun too and took part in the 'best dressed window competition' which was eventually won by Secret Garden.
