Children's fancy dress fun in Priory Park 18th Aug 2008
|
 |
There was fancy dress fun for children in Southend this weekend after Priory Park was transformed into a wonderland of characters.
The fancy dress carnival attracted more than 100 children dressed up as their favourite figures from films, cartoons and books, reports the Echo.
A teddy bears' picnic kicked off the day's events before the judging began for the fancy dress competition.
Southend's youngest contender was seven-month old Joe Gifford, who was dressed up as Toro, a fictional character creates by Sony.
"We were well up on numbers compared to last year. It's really popular," Alan Jones, who organises the event, told the Echo.
The Beijing Olympics clearly influenced some children's costume choices, with a number coming dressed as athletes.
Other costumes included fairies, the three little pigs, a jellyfish, a number of pirates and a Spiderman.
The carnival's choice award was given to Alexander Rowland, who was dressed as the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
