Fairytale dresses to lead Caribbean carnival 1st Aug 2008
Children in Leicester will be able to get their fairytale dresses out this weekend for the annual Caribbean carnival in the city.
More than 600,000 people are expected to turn out for the event, which will see a carnival parade to the carnival village in Victoria Park, reports In Loughborough.
Local groups have designed and made the fancy dress for the carnival and a fairytale princess was chosen at the Carnival Costume Extravaganza last weekend.
The main festivities will take place tomorrow (August 2nd) when Victoria Park will be transformed into a carnival village complete with art and craft stalls and entertainment.
After the village opens at midday, the Carnival Day Parade will get underway at 13:00 BST and those in fancy dress will leave the park and parade through the city.
Festivities will start today when a Caribbean Culture Day gets people in the mood for the weekend ahead.
Last year's carnival focused on a theme of a combination of cultures and commemorated the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
