Fairytale dresses dominate Desborough 24th Jul 2008

Fairytale dresses and Egyptians dominated the Desborough Carnival this year, it has been reported.
According to local newspaper the Northants Evening Telegraph, many girls chose to wear a Disney princess dress, while others wore High School Musical outfits and other interesting costumes.
Samantha Jarvis, carnival queen, led the parade, while Dunkirk Avenue was the location for all the stalls and sideshows.
The Oak Tree pub team fought their way to success at the carnival's football tournament and a free open-air gig for the local teenagers finished off the fun, where bands such as Shovelhead and Mutabilis entertained youngsters.
Michael Crick, chairman of the carnival committee, told the newspaper that all the clubs and organisations helped raise over £4,000 - a record amount for the event.
"I think the success of it was down to a combination of factors, like high numbers and good weather," he said.
Last year, the newspaper reported that many floats followed themes of 1960s and 1970s discos, whereas the Loatlands Primary School chose to decorate theirs with recycling ideas.
