Record breaking attempt in fancy dress 22nd Jul 2008

An attempt to gather the most people in fancy dress costume in one place is due to occur next month in Southwold.
Last year, hundreds gathered on Southwold Common to try and break the record, but unfortunately it was not officially recognised by Record Holders Republic.
However, organisers are hopeful that this year will prove to be a success, with fingers firmly crossed that more than 352 people, the number which showed up in 2007, will make an appearance.
Adjudicators from Record Holders Republic will be present to verify if the record has been broken. Each person who takes part must wear at least three items of fancy dress to qualify, the Lowestoft Journal reported.
Organised by John Huggins, the event is designed to help raise money for various charities. Mr Huggins was inspired to launch the fancy dress record breaking attempt by his granddaughter Sophie, who has cancer.
Speaking to the local newspaper, he said: "It was a wonderful day last year when so many people took part but this year if we can also set a world record it will be the icing on the cake."
The world record attempt will take place on Sunday, August 17th.
Money raised will be split between Cancer Research UK, East Anglia's Children's Hospices and the Children's Trust.
