Newport children prepare for fancy dress disco 21st Jul 2008
Children in the Newport region of Ireland are getting ready for an annual fancy dress disco which is due to take place over the August bank holiday weekend.
The Newport Grainne Uaile festival is held every year and gives adults and children the chance to dress up in their favourite costumes, reports the Mayo Advertiser.
Festivities officially begin on July 31st with the Tonragee Pipe Band parading through the streets.
The real attraction begins on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend when the children's fancy dress disco takes place in the parish hall.
Children are invited to dress up as their favourite pop idol or TV character, with prizes being given out for the best fancy dress costume.
The following day, children can continue in the spirit of the weekend by taking part in playground games, including peg the line, skipping, hula hoop, bouncy castles and pony rides.
All events throughout the weekend are free of charge and these include street music every night and children's events on the quayside.
