The race is on to find a prince and princess to represent the Hampshire town of Andover.
Girls and boys between the ages of eight and 13 living within a ten-mile radius of Andover are eligible to compete for the prize of £75 and a ride at the front of the procession at the Andover Carnival 2008, reports the Andover Advertiser.
All contestants will have their pictures taken by professional portrait photographer David Facey. These will be published in the paper, in order for readers to be able to vote for their favourite entrants.
The children who receive the most votes - 12 girls and six boys - will then face a panel of judges at the final on May 28th who will select the prince, princess and her two attendants.
Those selected as attendants will win £25 and will travel with the royal pair in the carnival.
And the chosen two will also play local celebrities for the year as they represent Andover at a number of other events, including the Summer Sounds music festival, the main firework display and the Christmas lights switch-on.
Meanwhile, Chesire News has reported that Alsager Carnival on June 21st will follow a circus theme.
