New carnival princess for Pershore 18th Mar 2008

The Worcestershire town of Pershore is currently planning an exciting celebration to mark the 40th anniversary of its annual carnival, which will come complete with floats and a princess.
Organisers hope that this year's event on spring bank holiday, May 26th, will be more fabulous than ever before, according to the Evesham Journal.
Titled Pershore Celebrates, it will incorporate a carnival, green festival and farmers' market.
New events will include the introduction of a carnival princess and a town crier following a competition to pick the representatives, who will hold their positions for a year and take part in town events.
Those planning the event are also currently throwing around new ideas such as a music concert and skateboarding competition to take place during the day, which they hope will also feature an old-fashioned town procession.
Roy Bayliss, a member of the Carnival Committee, told the paper: "This is going to be a great day out for all the family where people can move from event to event as there will be just so much going on."
Carnivals were held all over Ireland yesterday in celebration of St Patrick's Day.
